Are You Living Out of Love or Fear?

2 Timothy 1:7 says, “God did not give us a spirit of fear, but of power, love, and sound mind.” In life, we act out of two basic emotions.  Either love or fear. Whether you’re cleaning your house, exercising, or spending money, you’re doing it for a reason.  Watch this video to find out!

Two examples:

Everything we do either comes from a place of love or fear. Let me give you some examples:

We all know what happens when we get an unexpected call from a family member or friend saying, “We’re in the area and want to stop by, we’ll be there in 5 minutes.” What inevitably happens? We start running around like a mad woman cleaning up. We’re throwing things in closets, yelling at the kids to put their toys away.  That comes from a place of fear. We’re concerned with what people will think of us.

Now contrast that image with this one. Imagine you clean your home each week out of love. I’m not perfect, but I do work to make my home a launching pad for my family to impact their worlds. I want my home to be a safe haven for my husband and children. I want to be able to open my home at a moment’s notice to friends and family.

The house gets clean either way, but instead of coming from a place of fear, it gets clean out of love.

Another example is exercise. I remember times that I worked out because I hated the way I looked. I wanted to be perfect and would mark my workouts off everyday. But now I’ve come to a place where I exercise because I want to honor God with the body that He’s entrusted to me. I exercise now because I want to be capable and strong to do the things that God wants me to do.

My challenge to you…

I want to challenge you to examine the REASON behind why you do what you do.  Maybe the way you handle a conflict, how you use your money, or the reason you grab that bag of chips.  Are you living out of love or fear?
