25 Jul Be the Light | The Ultimate Reason We’re Here
“You are the light of the world.” Matthew 5:13
You were part of God’s plan from the beginning… …
We were God’s plan to bring His truth to this world. It would have been easier for God to come down in every generation, show signs and wonders that people would know who He was. But He calls us to be His light wherever we are.
My oldest son started Kindergarten last year and when I went into his classroom to meet his teacher, she had a sign on her wall that said, “Shine His Light.”
Are you a teacher? You may think that because you can’t directly teach your students about Jesus that you can’t shine His light, but you can.
Are you a business owner? You may think that because you’re in the work place that you’re not in ministry, but you are.
Are you a stay at home mom? You have the opportunity to shine his light to your children from their first day of life.
YOU are part of God’s plan to reach this lost world. Be the light.
The Darker the Night… .
“A town built on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house.” Matthew 5:14b-15
When it gets dark outside, we turn on lamps, we put those lamps on end tables, so they are the most effective. It seems silly to think that we would put them under a bowl, but it can be tempting to do that with our spiritual lights. We feel embarrassed or nervous to share our faith. But God’s word is truth, and it’s a truth that the world needs to hear.
Let Your Light Shine, Why?
“Let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.” Matthew 5:16
All this week we’ve been talking about being the Light. And today I wanted to share the WHY behind being the light and the HOW.
Each of us are called to shine our light SO THAT we can bring glory to God. We don’t serve for the recognition or the appreciation, we serve to bring Him glory, to lift His name up, and to further His kingdom.
So how? The key is relationships. The first must be your relationship with the Lord, because we only shine what we reflect. As you grow closer to the Lord and you become more like Him, your life will automatically shine.
My husband and I run a business and we dedicated it to the Lord when we first started. We see it as an opportunity to share God’s love with our employees. God has blessed us with profit that we have used benefit our church family and outreaches.
My pastor is an avid lifter and he has cultivated relationships at the gym that he goes to daily.
Pray and ask the Lord to show you how you can reflect Jesus in the relationships that he’s already blessed you with!
