Overcome the Enemy’s Weapons with One Simple Truth

The enemy’s strategy is to deceive and lie to us. Period.

Our strongest weapon against his schemes is knowing God’s Word.

Freedom is found in the truth. Today, I’m sharing some lies that the enemy uses AND some practical ways we can combat the lies.

The Truth Vs. a Lie

Remember that Game: Two Truths and a Lie?

It’s a game where you have to say two things that are true and one thing that is a lie. Then everyone else playing has to guess which is not true.

The enemy works like this game. The lie he wants us to believe will be mixed into the truth. A lie is supposed to look like the truth as much as possible.

John 8:44  says:

“He is the father of lies.”

The Devil’s biggest plan is to get us to believe lies. Lying is his native language.

In Genesis 3, the serpent came into the garden and deceived Eve stating something that she knew was a lie.

She knew it wasn’t truth but then she added to what God had said. Going back to Genesis 2 we see what God really said and realize that Eve didn’t know God’s word as well as she thought. The serpent was able to use this half truth to get her to doubt God.

How do we know the difference between the truth and a lie? We must know what the truth is to know what a lie is.

With the game of two truths and a lie, it is a fun game for a new group of people to get to know each other. But, if you know the people playing the game isn’t much fun. Because you know them. You know what is true and what is a lie.

If you want to know what a lie is then you need to know the word of God
You can’t quote what you do don’t know.

I don’t just want you to memorize scripture for the sake of memorization. I want you to KNOW it so that when the enemy is shouting lies at you, you’re unmoved.

Write God’s word in your heart, so that when the enemy tells you lies, you will know the truth and you won’t believe the lies.

Combatting the Enemy Lies

We need to know God’s word so we can be mighty against the enemy. We need to use this as WEAPON to fight against the lies the enemy is telling us.

Examples of lies we believe with verses to contradict them.

The liar says… God isn’t there and He doesn’t care.

BUT God’s Word says … I will not forget you for I have engraved you on the palm of my hands. (Isaiah 49:16)

The liar says…You have nowhere to turn.

BUT God’s Word says – Come to me all who are weary and heavy laden. (Matthew 28:11)

The liar says…This sin will satisfy you.

BUT God’s Word says – Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness. (Matthew 5:6)

The liar says…You’ve already sinned a little, might as well sin some more.

BUT God’s Word says –– Don’t harden your heart, repent and turn back so that your sins will be blotted out. (Isaiah 6:10)

The liar says…You have to give in to this temptation.

BUT God’s Word says –– No temptation has overtaken you except what is common to mankind. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can endure it. (1 Corinthians 10:13)

The liar says…God’s holding out on you, he doesn’t want you to have fun.

BUT God’s Word says –– You make known to me the path of life; you will fill me with joy in your presence, with eternal pleasures at your right hand. (Psalm 16:11)

The liar says…God is mad at you and he’ll never give you what you want.

BUT God’s Word says ––Take delight in the LORD, and he will give you your heart’s desires. (Psalm 37:4)

The liar says…You’ll never get married, you look like to fool to wait out and not give in to sex.

BUT God’s Word says ––Those who look to him are radiant; their faces are never covered with shame. (Psalm 34:5)

The liar says…You have to take care of yourself, you have to worry about your life.

BUT God’s Word says –– Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. (Philippians 4:6)

The liar says…You’ll never get any better, you’ll die in your failures.

BUT God’s Word says –– Being confident of this, that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus. (Philippians 1:6)

The liar says…You’re not worthy of God’s love and no one else will ever love you either.

BUT God’s Word says ––For you are a people holy to the LORD your God. The LORD your God has chosen you out of all the peoples on the face of the earth to be his people, his treasured possession. (Deuteronomy 7:6)

The liar says…You’ve messed up too much this time, I’ll never break free from this sin, god can’t love me anymore.

BUT God’s Word says –– No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us. For I am sure that neither death nor life, nor angels nor rulers, nor things present nor things to come, nor powers, nor height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord. (Romans 8:37-39)

Lies Hold us Captive

WE NEED TO KNOW THE TRUTH IF WE EVER WANT TO BE FREE.

I’m sick of the devil holding us captive, and we just let him because we forget that we have the key to the prison door

There are some reading this, that have stopped listening to the truth.

You have listened so much to the lies of the enemy that you think that because you’re doing whatever you want that you are free. That’s a LIE.

Next week, we’re going to talk about freedom, but the only way to be free is to know the truth.
