Goals! I love setting them and meeting them. Let me ask you: Have you ever made a New Years Resolution and it stuck…for all of two weeks?
I’m made plenty of goals and resolutions and I’ve been blessed enough to meet many of them! Now I want to share with you my 5 top tips for making your goals a reality!
A Lesson From Joshua
Wishful thinking isn’t enough when you want to work towards God’s best! Recently, I was thinking about the story of Joshua and the city of Jericho. God told the Israelites that He would hand Jericho over to them. BUT…He wanted them to take action. He had them walk around that city multiple times and in the end, the walls fell and they conquered the city.
Who made the walls fall? God. Would God have knocked the walls down if Joshua and the people didn’t walk around the city? Hmm…I don’t think so. God gives us the power and strength to meet the goals that we have, BUT we still have a responsibility to take action.
After several years of trial and error, I have set and made several goals! Things like:
- Giving up soda and coffee for an entire year
- Completing a marathon (26.2 miles!)
- Finishing a 30 day fast for spiritual reasons
I’ve fine-tuned the way to set goals and (most importantly) MEET THEM!

In the movie the Little Giants, one of the quotes is “Football is 80% mental and 40% physical. 🙂 The point of the quote is that what we accomplish daily is determined by what we think about daily. In her book, Power Thoughts Devotional: 365 Daily Inspirations for Winning the Battle of the Mind, Joyce Meyer gives a short snippet of encouragement for you to being realizing the power of your thoughts and to change those thoughts into empowering truths.
